It is an argument about which there is a lot of confusion due to the overlap of candomblé with umbanda: another religion founded in Brazil in recent times and also inspired by the traditional African religion. In Umbanda, they relate to entities, not to orixás. The very purpose of consulting entities is, in my opinion, different from the reason why we resort to orixás. The entities (which can also appear in Candomblé) join the mediums arriving to answer contingent questions and provide solutions to everyday problems. Orixás, on the other hand, belong indissolubly to the spiritual dimension of the individual (they are already part of us) and come to guide each one of us on the path of life until the fulfillment of our destiny.
